Nakile Home for Special Care

Providing Compassionate Care in Argyle

Established in December 1989, Nakile Home for Special Care has been dedicated to providing quality care to the elderly population in Argyle and the surrounding areas. The name "Nakile," meaning "Sunset" in the Indigenous language, was chosen by local historian Oscar Nauss to reflect the serene and comforting nature of our home. Since filling to capacity by March 1990, we have maintained full occupancy, and in 2015, we expanded our facility with a new 12-bed wing, increasing our total capacity to 48 permanent beds.

Our well-designed, one-story facility features four wings, each comprising 12 private and semi-private rooms with shared common areas and dining rooms. Residents can enjoy a wheelchair-accessible patio and gazebo off the main lounge, leading to a safe walkway overlooking the picturesque Argyle River, beautifully landscaped with flower beds and sitting areas. A cozy kitchenette and multi-purpose room allows residents to gather for supervised baking, crafts, and other recreational activities, fostering a sense of community and engagement.

We recognize the importance of family and community involvement in enhancing the well-being of our residents. Family and friends are welcome to visit at any time, and we encourage loved ones to take residents on outings or overnight visits when possible. Residents are encouraged to personalize their living spaces with favourite belongings such as photographs, pillows, plants, or quilts to make their rooms feel like home. Private telephone and cable television hookups are available upon request. To ensure the comfort and safety of all, we maintain a scent-free and non-smoking environment due to severe allergies that some residents may have.
